United States Reaffirms Commitment To Assist Displaced Iraqis
The United States pledges its continued commitment to assist Iraqis fleeing sectarian violence and urges other countries to demonstrate a similar commitment. "The displacement of almost 4 million Iraqis, both within Iraq and in neighboring countries, is a humanitarian concern that requires coordinated action by the international community," Under Secretary of State Paula Dobriansky tells delegates from more than 60 nations attending a conference in Geneva on the humanitarian needs of Iraq refugees and internally displaced persons. "The United States stands ready to continue its strong support, and we ask both traditional donors and new donor countries to be generous in their responses."

The first major exhibition of contemporary Iranian photography in the United States emphasizes the interior life of individuals and families in Iran over journalism or documentary-type photography. Co-curators Hamid Severi, of the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art, Iran, and Gary Hallman of the Regis Center for Art at the University of Minnesota, chose photos to show American audiences that, although Iran is awash in photojournalism, its photographers also have a modern, artistic sensibility.
